Mostre: Museo della scultura del ‘900 sardo e Mario Pes. La modernità fra tradizione e utopia
The striking complex of Spazio Ilisso, at 23 Via Brofferio, in the historic heart of Nuoro, houses the Museum of 20th-century Sardinian Sculpture. The permanent collection consists of over 100 works by the island's greatest artists: Francesco Ciusa, Costantino Nivola, Salvatore Fancello, Maria Lai, Eugenio Tavolara, Gavino Tilocca, and Pinuccio Sciola. The exhibition route, which runs through the entire ground floor and the two gardens, offers an innovative proposal for the knowledge of Sardinian art.
From 17 June to 5 November 2023, the entire upper floor will host the first major retrospective on Tonino Casula (Seulo 1931- Cagliari 2023) a few months after his death. The temporary exhibition dedicated to the great specialist of geometric abstractionism, optical, kinetic and programmed art and video art, bears witness to the focal passages of Casula's visual research from the early 1960s to 2021. Through 80 works arranged in chronological and thematic sections, visitors will be able to immerse themselves in a journey spanning more than seventy years at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries: from the foundation of the Gruppo Transazionale (1966) to the direct exchanges with Italian avant-garde groups, passing through his relations with Corrado Maltese; from the 'militant' evolution of his commitment during the 1970s to his use of new technologies. Together with a nucleus of masterpieces, the various publications bearing his signature (including the well-known Impara l'arte, published by Einaudi in 1977) and some original materials documenting the peculiarity and originality of his method are presented.
The entrance ticket allows a visit to both exhibitions.
Initiatives involving music, theatre, live readings will be announced via social media.
