Blooming is back, the festival dedicated to the promotion of artistic expressions of research in the field of digital culture, music and electronic arts
On Friday 8 and Saturday 9 September 2023 the event will host international artists and creative studios with installations, video projections and performances in unique and rare locations in the historic centre of Pergola (PU).
For the seventh consecutive year, one of Italy's most beautiful villages will host sensorial experiments, immersive environments and engaging performances that will contribute to enhancing the city's historical and architectural heritage.
Sacred spaces, hidden spaces, underground spaces: churches, gardens, cellars, will come alive with projections, images, and sounds that will stimulate wonder and curiosity and propose a different, imaginative interpretation of the town of Pergola and the places that pass through it.
Blooming, thanks to its format combining evocative locations and spectacular content, confirms itself as a unique platform in the Italian panorama of digital arts events. Some of the most important and recognised international artists in the sector will be present, almost all of them for the first time in Italy; there will be plenty of space for interactivity and immersiveness, with spectacular videos, installations, projections, and there will also be engaging live performances.
A contemporary, innovative proposal, set in the present but, above all, projected into the future: the programme of the 2023 edition has the mission of fostering the dissemination and knowledge of these languages among all kinds of audiences and providing unique and stimulating opportunities for artists to meet.
Guests of Blooming Festival 2023 will be the artists: Gabey Tjon a Tham (NL), Aka Chang (TW), Entangled Others (PT), Diego Labonia (IT), Mathieu Rivier (CH), Vitamin (ES), Leandro Summo (IT), Blivet (IT), the creative artists Bad Clipping Studio (IT) and a special project by Macerata Light Design.
Dutch artist Gabey Tjon in Tham in the church of St. Ursula will present repetition at my distance, a large kinetic, light and sound installation that investigates, in continuity and coherence with his artistic poetics, the common ground between nature and the digital in the way they both control our lives through uninterrupted cycles.
The site-specific version of Ring, an ethereal and minimalist laser sculpture in the church of Santa Maria di Piazza that will be realised by Taiwanese light artist Aka Chang, promises to be highly suggestive.
Entangled Others (Sofìa Crespo and Feileacan McCormick) will present the video installation Sediment Nodes in a secret garden in Pergola: a work that moves on the exploration of ecology, nature and generative arts, enhanced by a sound track composed by sound artist Clothilde
Ekstasis: a light installation with an intimate and contemplative character will be realised by Diego Labonia in the Cellar of the Dimora Concioli, while Mathieu Rivier will present La cave aux bulles, an interactive, playful and surprising video projection in the Blasi Cellar.
Vitamin will present Conexiones, an immersive installation consisting of 900 metres of fibre optics that invites viewers to explore space-time perceptions, in the cellar of Palazzo Bruschi, and finally Leandro Summo will present his unprecedented project In fieri, a mapping that gives three-dimensional body to images thanks to light, reactive to the presence of the public, in the church of San Rocco.
Special projects include a public videomapping by Macerata Light Design and a new virtual reality and interactive project by Bad Clipping studio.
As every year, a kids workshop will be offered by CoderDojo Fano and MeMo Mediateca Montanari, in collaboration with Umanesimo Artificiale.
Finally, the #bloomingyou call is open until 25 July to select a project that has at the centre of its proposal a reflection on environmental and social sustainability, inclusion and accessibility issues, and whose realisation is achieved through sustainable/inclusive techniques and technologies.
Blooming Festival is a project of Palazzo Bruschi, under the direction of Rita Camilucci, a social promotion association based in Pergola, whose main aims are to organise cultural events and foster the exchanges that are more necessary than ever between ideas and works, artists, professionals and the public.
The artistic direction of the festival is by Quiet Ensemble, a leading creative studio on the visual arts and new media scene in Italy.
The festival is held with the support and patronage of the Marche Region, the Province of Pesaro Urbino, the Municipality of Pergola, the Embassy and Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the National Award for Arts of Taiwan, Pro Helvetia Swiss Foundation for Culture, Confcommercio Marche nord, Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Pesaro, ATIM Marche, and the Marche Chamber of Commerce.
